What does Pack 1 Richmond offer?
Our Pack is proud to offer a year-round program built to offer diverse opportunities for fun and
adventure for the Scout and his family.
Who can join?
Membership is open to boys from Richmond and the surrounding towns.
Our roster currently includes boys from throughout the Chariho school district and local charter schools.
When can my son join?
Our
formal recruitment is in September, aligned with the school calendar. However, interested boys are welcome and encouraged to join
at anytime! Contact our
Membership Chair for more information.
What will membership cost?
Annual membership is just $45.00 per
year per boy, which includes a subscription to Boys Life magazine. Our membership year renews annually each
December. Families joining throughout the year pay a prorated fee. Families with more two or more boys in the program
pay only $78.00 per year. We strive to maintain our membership at a very affordable rate, making the program accessible to all
who wish to join.
Why is there a membership charge?
Without the membership, the Pack could not operate. Monies raised
through membership and fundraising activities are the primary sources of funding for the Pack's operating expenses.
Compared to the cost of other programs available to our youth, Pack 1 Richmond's Cub Scout program is a tremendous
value.
What about uniforms?
Each boy is required to wear the official Cub Scout 'Field' uniform shirt, belt, neckerchief,
slide, and hat. The hat may be either the official rank hat or the pack hat. Official Cub Scout pants/shorts are encouraged,
but are not required. Otherwise, blue pants/shorts or blue jeans should be worn. Required insignia and any patches or awards earned
should be correctly affixed.
Please refer to the uniform inspection sheet for
Cub Scouts or
Webelos for proper placement of insignia.
Uniform
items are available at either of our two local Scout Shops. Pack hats ($10.00) and Activity uniform shirts ($8.00) are available
for purchase from the Pack. The full uniform is an initial investment of roughly $65.00, but it will likely last the boy through most
of his Cub Scout years. As boys graduate into the Boy Scout program, gently used uniforms may be donated. Contact our
Committee
Chair for availability.
How much time will Cub Scouts require?
Pack 1 Richmond believes that parental involvement and regular participation
in both Den and Pack events is the key to a boy getting the most out of his Scouting experience
As your sons adult guide, or
Akela, we ask that, at minimum, you commit to attending the following:
Pack Meeting - held monthly September through
May (1 to 1.5 hours)
Den Meeting- held weekly September through May (1 to 1.5 hours)
Pinewood Derby- held annually in January (3 hours)
Fundraising- held twice annually (time commitment
varies)
We strongly encourage participation in other Pack and Council sponsored activities based upon your boy's interests.
Popular events include:
Scout Days at local sporting events (Providence Bruins, Paw Sox, NE Revolution, etc.)
Camping Overnights (Pack campouts, Boston Museum of Science, etc.)
Outings (Hiking, Frosty Drew Observatory, Yagoo
Water Park, Biomes, etc.)
How do you protect my son?
Maintaining a safe and secure environment for our Cub Scouts is the
highest priority of our Pack and its Leaders. Please visit our
Youth Protection page to learn more about our commitment and
process.
